Are Hair Growth Vitamin Supplements Your Best Bet?

AUTHOR: Jill Tracy

Hair Growth Vitamin Supplements
Are you looking for hair growth vitamin supplements that will stop thinning hair, curtail baldness, or promote super fast growth of long, shiny locks? The simple truth is there is no magic vitamin formulation to promote hair growth. The rate of your hair growth, its texture and natural color are genetically predetermined. There are ways to improve its appearance and maximize its growth rate, but expecting a miracle is likely to leave you disappointed.

Like your complexion and fingernails, hair is an external reflection of your body’s inner health. A variety of factors can dramatically reduce genetically determined hair growth rates. Medications and medical treatments, medical conditions such as thyroid disease, malnourishment and nutrient deficiencies can all affect the condition of hair. Stress or a severely restricted caloric intake can also cause hair to thin, break, fall out or fail to grow. Hair is made of protein and is particularly sensitive to protein intake. Too little can result in poor growth rate or thinning.

Maximize Hair Growth Through Better Health

Maintaining a full head of long, flowing hair throughout your life may or may not be in the cards for you genetically, but a healthy lifestyle will help make the most of what you’ve inherited. To promote hair growth and health:

  • Eat a well balanced diet. Include a variety of different colored vegetables and be sure to consume enough protein, particularly if you follow a vegetarian diet.

  • Add soy products to your diet. Soy protein is believed to support hair growth and health.

  • Drink plenty of water. Staying well hydrated will promote better health which in turn can help improve the condition of your hair.

  • Get plenty of sleep. Sleep is essential to allow adequate time for hair growth.

  • Avoid smoking, caffeine, and alcohol which can rob the body of nutrients and dry out hair.

  • Reduce stress as much as possible through exercise and relaxation techniques.

Supplements to Consider

If you don’t already take a multi-vitamin and mineral supplement, consider doing so to promote healthy hair growth and condition. Specific hair growth vitamin supplements are not necessary in addition to a quality supplement that contains the RDA of B vitamins and Beta-carotene. Your multi-vitamin should also contain essential amino acids and a full range of minerals. In particular, adequate intake of magnesium and zinc, sulfur and silica can help promote the health of your hair.
